Local Food Heroes

Pine Brook, NJ · Morris County

USDA-funded regenerative farming training that turns veterans and neighbors into local food growers.

Local Food Heroes trains veterans and community members in professional regenerative agriculture, building agricultural entrepreneurs and food security champions. Its motto: Growing Veterans. Growing Food. Growing Hope.

Backed by a $250,000 USDA grant through Northeast SARE, the no-cost program offers hands-on training at Veterans Haven North and partner farms such as The Farm at Leslie Court and The Farm at Leffler Hill. Participants get professional equipment, expert instruction, a mobile tool library and an ongoing support network.

The program also makes Sweet Bulb Hot Garlic Sauce, grown with regenerative methods by veteran farmers and small local family farms. Every bottle helps fund housing for apprentices. Local Food Heroes is a community initiative of Tye's House.
